How many countries require ETIAS?
Thirty countries sit inside the ETIAS scheme. That is the entire Schengen area, which includes most EU members plus four non-EU countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland), together with Cyprus. A single ETIAS authorisation is expected to cover all of them, so you do not apply separately for each country on a multi-stop trip.
Use the search box to find a specific country, or browse by group below. Countries with a full guide link straight to it. For the rest, the checker tells you whether your passport is likely to need ETIAS.

Non-EU Schengen countries
Not in the EU, but part of Schengen, so ETIAS still applies.
EU, not yet in Schengen
An EU member outside Schengen so far, but inside the ETIAS scheme.
Which countries are not in ETIAS?
Ireland is the notable exception. It is an EU member but stays outside both the Schengen area and ETIAS, so it keeps its own entry rules. The UK is not in ETIAS either; it runs a separate UK ETA for visitors coming the other way. Microstates such as Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City have open borders with their Schengen neighbours and are treated as part of that area in practice.
Are Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania included?
Yes, all three are inside ETIAS. Bulgaria and Romania are now full Schengen members, so they work like any other Schengen country. Cyprus is an EU member that has not yet joined Schengen, but it is still part of the ETIAS scheme, so visa-exempt travellers are expected to need an authorisation for it once the system is live.
Do you need a separate ETIAS for each country?
No. One ETIAS is linked to your passport and works across every country in the scheme for the length of its validity. What it does not change is the time limit: stays across all of these countries still count toward the same 90 days in any 180-day period. See ETIAS requirements for the full rules.

ETIAS countries FAQs
Can I apply for ETIAS now?
No. The official ETIAS system is not open yet, so it is not possible for anyone to apply. Any website claiming to issue ETIAS today is not legitimate.
What is the 90/180-day Schengen rule?
ETIAS-eligible travellers can stay in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days within any rolling 180-day window. ETIAS does not extend that limit; it only authorises short stays within the existing rules.
Is ETIAS a visa?
Technically no. ETIAS is a travel authorisation, not a visa. Many travellers search for “ETIAS visa” or “Europe visa waiver”. The closest comparison is the US ESTA system. You still need a valid passport, and ETIAS does not guarantee entry: border officers always make the final decision.
How much will ETIAS cost?
The official ETIAS fee is expected to be €20. Travellers under 18 and over 70 are expected to be exempt from the fee, though they will still need an ETIAS. Private services may charge a separate, optional service fee for help with the application.
